John Mukathe

John Mukathe’s young life was shaped by neglect and rejection. When he arrived at Shiphrah Centre, his appearance told the story of deep suffering. His skin was pale, he showed signs of malnutrition, and his body reflected slow growth. His hair was shaggy, and he often looked hungry, stressed, and confused.

John was also unwell due to poor feeding, relying on whatever food he could get from peers, which was neither sufficient nor nutritious. The emotional toll of his difficult upbringing weighed heavily on him, leaving him vulnerable and in need of protection.

John’s mother, Evangeline, struggling in her own circumstances, sought help for her children with the assistance of Elizabeth Wanjiku, who guided her to Shiphrah Centre. John, together with his sister Jemimah, was placed under the Centre’s care. Their situation was further complicated by the presence of a stepfather, who had rejected them and sent them away, despite fathering other children with their mother.

At Shiphrah Centre, John finally found a place of safety. He received nutritious meals, medical attention, and counselling, helping him regain health and stability. Slowly, the signs of hunger and stress began to fade as he adapted to an environment filled with love and acceptance.

Today, John’s story is one of hope rising from rejection. Though abandoned by his stepfather and weakened by neglect, he and his sister now have the chance to grow strong, confident, and hopeful under the care of Shiphrah Centre.
