Samwel Njenga

At first glance, Samwel Njenga appeared to be a healthy child. Physically, he looked well, but with time it became clear that he was living with mental and speech retardation. He struggled to communicate and comprehend, making him highly vulnerable and in need of special care and protection.

Samwel had been living with his grandmother, who herself suffered from mental illness and could not provide the stability or attention he required. His situation drew concern from Ann Njeri, a compassionate community member who recognized the seriousness of his condition.

Acting to protect Samwel, Ann reported the case at Kikuyu Police Station, and with their support, she was able to rescue the child and bring him to Shiphrah Centre.

At Shiphrah, Samwel found a safe space where he could receive the care, patience, and support he needed. Though communication remained a challenge, he was met with understanding and love, giving him a chance to grow in confidence and experience acceptance.

Today, Samwel’s story is one of hidden resilience. Though faced with mental and speech limitations and a history of neglect, he has been given the opportunity to live in an environment that values his dignity and supports his unique needs.
