Mary Gachui was brought to Shiphrah Centre at a time when her young life was marked by hardship and uncertainty. Though she appeared stable, she showed signs of slow growth, was hungry, and carried the weight of stress well beyond her years.
Mary was in need not only of proper nutrition and shelter, but also of counselling and emotional support, as the difficult environment she came from had deeply affected her.
Her father, Jesse Njoroge, was poor, unwell, and homeless. Struggling with his own health and unable to provide even the basic needs, he made the painful yet loving decision to seek help for his daughter. In his humility, he turned to Shiphrah Centre, asking that Mary be given the care and protection he could not afford.
At the Centre, Mary was welcomed with compassion. She began receiving nutritious meals, medical attention, and counselling support, helping her regain both health and confidence. With time, the stress on her face gave way to hope and a renewed sense of security.
Today, Mary’s story reflects the courage of a father who, despite his own struggles, sought a better life for his daughter—and the transformative power of a safe and caring environment at Shiphrah Centre.
