About us

The story of Shiphrah Home is woven from the personal journey of its founder, Martha Njeri Macharia. Born in 1961 into a family of thirteen, Martha experienced firsthand the struggles of extreme poverty, often going without food and education. At just nine years old, she began working to support her family, an early chapter in a life defined by unwavering resilience and faith.
Her path was marked by a deep-seated empathy, which was intensified by her personal experience of raising her three sons, two of whom were born with disabilities. This personal challenge, along with the kindness of a community that helped her access schooling for her children, ignited a powerful calling to serve others.
This call led Martha to open her heart and her home to abandoned and neglected children. One of the first was a young girl named Kanuna, whom she took in to ensure she received the care she needed. From there, her family grew, as she took in newborn twins who had been left alone and a baby boy, Moses, who was found with his umbilical cord still attached.
These acts of compassion, fueled by her faith, laid the foundation for Shiphrah Home. With the support of local leaders, community groups like the Jiweze Women Group, and generous individuals both locally and internationally, Martha was able to transform her personal mission into a structured haven for vulnerable children.
Today, Shiphrah Home stands as a testament to the belief that every child deserves a chance to shine, regardless of their background or circumstance. It is a place where faith, compassion, and a tireless commitment to the well-being of the next generation come together to create a family of hope.
